Taking on the ORGANIC side of things.....
Going organic, well, it's seems to be an overwhelming switch to make, but worth it.
Slowly I have been incorporating organic produce into my grocery adventures along with pasta and yogurt. These three categories have not appeared to be diminishing the coins in my wallet too much, but I have found other categories such as meat and hygiene products to have expensive price points that over time seem to add up to eye-popping amounts! However, that is the question exactly....
Is the higher price point worth it? Is grass fed meat, free-range poultry and all natural hygiene worthwhile for our bodies and over all health?
I have just begun to start research on this topic, but I'm leaning toward YES....
I mean honestly, to look at the simple truth... WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU WANT ANYTHING BUT NATURAL IN AND ON YOUR BODY? I for sure, don't like the idea of having a product with man-made chemicals and fillers that I can hardly pronounce in my system or on my skin!
It seems like common sense to me.
So, we're all on a stricter budget these days... (here's where my cash goes: rent, car payments, gas, car and health insurance, food, hub's grad school tuition, the list goes on and on) ....with these harder economic times we are in, we have to make wise choices on where to spend our dimes.
But why compromise our health because of the economy. It's about making little changes over time.... slowly merging healthier choices into our weekly/bi-weekly grocery shopping routines...
Here is my progress so far in making the full switch:
1. I buy all organic fruits and veggies
2. whole wheat organic pasta
3. vanilla organic yogurt
4. I buy free-range poultry / grass-fed meat when on sale
5. all natural based tea tree oil based shampoo/conditioner
6. when on sale I buy natural body-wash
7. This week I am trying natural toothpaste.... ( Jason PowerSmile)
Goals:
to eliminate meat and poultry that is NOT grass fed/free-range and if not on sale, menu plan for more vegetarian based meals.
to switch over to organic milk
to weed out frozen meal options and get back to making meals from scratch on a regular basis.
So, going completely Organic may seem a little overwhelming at first, but taking small steps makes the process a lot easier on you and your wallet.
As complicated and as picky it seems- going completely organic is really just going back to the basics. Back to farming with an emphasis on the quality of food not quantity... an emphasis on the health of people, not the health of the wallet.
